How to Draw Deer Antlers

We are back again with another step-by-step drawing tutorial, and this time we're gonna tell you how to draw a deer head with antlers. Whether you are learning or teaching your kids to draw a deer head, this tutorial will help you with both.

There are many species in the deer family. However, the one you will draw today can be counted as a whitetail deer (buck deer), roe deer, or mule deer.

So without any delay, let's learn how to draw a cute deer head in 15 easy steps.

Steps on How to Draw Deer Head with Antlers

Materials Needed:

  • White Drawing Paper/Sheet
  • Pencil and Eraser
  • Black Marker
  • Colors (Watercolor, Crayons, or Pencil Color)

How to draw deer head

As said, drawing a mule head is a little bit difficult but the proper step following will make it much easier. As an adult, it won't take you much time, let's say 30 to 45 minutes. But teaching your kids may take 1 hour or more than that.

Total Time: 35 minutes

Step #1: Draw an Oval

Draw an Oval

The very first step is to draw an oval shape. This is the face of your deer.

Step #2: Elongate the Oval Shape

Elongate It

A small oval won't work well for this drawing because the deer's face has a broad forehead part and a narrow mouth area.

So if you've drawn a small oval shape, elongate it a little from the bottom side.

Step #3: Clear the Line

Clear the Line

Erase the first inner oval line so you get a clear long oval shape. This is a perfect shape for your deer's face. Now we will add other details.

Step #4: Draw a Horizontal Oval

Draw Horizontal Oval

Now draw a horizontal oval shape overlapping the bottom of your deer's face; this will give you a mouth area on the face.

Make sure this oval shape does not cover half of your deer's face but roughly the three-fourth area on the downside.

Step #5: Erase the Intersection

Erase the Intersection

Now, erase the part of the oval shape outside the face to get a clear sectioned face.

For this step, you can also just draw a curved horizontal line at the bottom side of the face.

Step #6: Draw the Bangs and the Eyes

Draw Bangs and Eyes

It's time to draw cute little bangs of the baby deer and outline of the eyes. For bangs, you can draw the letter 'W' but with curved lines. For eyes, draw two small ovals.

Step #7: Draw the Pupils

Draw the Pupils

At this step, we will draw the pupils and it's really easy. You just have to draw smaller ovals in the eyes and fill them with a black marker. Use white charcoal to add a sparkling effect to your deer's eyes.

Step #8: Draw the Nostrils and a Smile

Draw Nostrils and Smile

This is an easy step; simply draw two small circles next to each other below the curved line on the face. These will be the nostrils.

Now you just have to draw a small U-shaped to add a cute smile to your deer's face. (Refer the image 8)

Step #9: Draw the Left Ear

Draw One Side's Ear

To draw the ear, draw a small slant line on the left side of the head. This line should not be completely horizontal.

Now, at a short distance below this line, draw a curved line and join it with the first line's end. This curved line looks more like the letter J staring from the head of your deer's face.

Step #10: Draw the Right Ear

Draw Another Side's Ear

Follow step 9 on the right side to draw the right ear of your deer's face drawing. With this, you will have both the deer's ears ready. What's the next step? Drawing your deer's antlers.

Step #11: Draw an Outlined J

Draw an Outlined J

Here, we will start drawing the deer's antlers. Draw an outlined J on the head of the deer, that will look like its horn (Refer the image 11).

To make it easier, simply draw a long letter J-shape on the left side above the left ear. Now, at a small distance from this shape, draw another J shape and join the ends with the first shape.

Step #12: Draw Random Triangles

Draw Random Triangles

Now draw random small triangles on the inner side and a single medium-sized triangle on the other side of the outlined J.

Step #13: Erase all the Intersections

Erase all the Intersections

Now, take an eraser and erase all the intersecting lines on the horn. The sketch you have is the Antler of the deer.

Step #14: Draw the Right Antler

Complete Drawing Another Antler

Follow steps 11 to 13 to complete drawing deer's antlers on both sides. After that outline the entire deer head with its antlers with a black marker or pen.

Step #15: Color the Deer Head

Color the Deer Head

Last and the most awaited step of the drawing tutorial – coloring. You will need three colors namely, Khaki, light Olive, and Brown. If not these colors, you can choose the color on your own as well. Use brown to color the deer's antlers, light olive for the mouth and bangs, and khaki for the face.

Finally, this is the end of the step-by-step tutorial on how to draw a deer head with antlers. Drawing and teaching both take different times, but the thing that is common in both is patience. Whether you are drawing or teaching someone to draw, keep your mind calm and patient, then only the task will get easier.
